Jon Levin will be unable to perform with the band for the next several months while he recovers from surgery on his neck and shoulder for thoracic outlet syndrome (a condition when the nerves or blood vessels just below the neck are compressed, or squeezed). "My hand feels great, but I do need some time before I will be able to swing a strap on my shoulder and tour," he says. "We are going to wait until May before we start playing again."

Daves 1959 Les Paul reissue Composition to a backing track called Reflections

Daves 1959 Les Paul reissue Composition to a backing track called Reflections

Dave here with an original piece for the backing track called Reflections. I played it with my Gibson 1959 re-issue Les Paul. I used a Steve Vai Bad Horsie Wah wah pedal, a Jim Dunlop Jazz 3 pick, my Digitech 2120 guitar processor, a Mesa Boogie 20 watt per channel stereo power amp through 2 Marshall 4x12's in stereo....This clip was ready to be recorded over a month ago but the high heat and humidity here made it torture to sit and play for more than a few minutes. I finally just had to do it but I was sweating bullets as you can see! Please enjoy this clip and tell friends about it if you like it! Filmed in Wilton Ct at Area 52...

Paul Gilbert: ArtistWorks Special Lesson for Truth In Shredding

Paul Gilbert: ArtistWorks Special Lesson for Truth In Shredding

hub.artistworks.com Get personalized feedback from Paul Gilbert www.paulgilbertguitar.com MR. BIG guitarist Paul Gilbert has launched a new online school of rock guitar lessons, and he recently spoke with Guitar World about the venture. An excerpt is available below: Q: Can anyone — even absolute beginners — enroll, or is there an audition process of some sort? Gilbert: "Everyone has to start somewhere! I certainly didn't sound great when I first started playing, and I remember all my guitar teachers, both good and bad, and what it felt like to struggle with even the simplest of things. So I actually begin my course by playing the guitar left-handed. I'm right-handed, of course, so when I play left-handed, I'm immediately transported back to my first day as a guitarist. I wanted to make sure to have that as a starting point. At the same time, because all the lessons are so connected to each other, I actually recommend that even the more advanced players start at the beginning. They may be surprised at what they learn, and if nothing else, they can enjoy watching me try to play left-handed!" Q: How would you describe your teaching method? Gilbert: "My teaching method is mostly inspired by teaching people one-on-one. I've certainly enjoyed doing clinic tours for larger audiences, but the most valuable teaching experience has been the hundreds of lessons that I've given where I can hear the students play. This gives me a very specific idea of what guitarists are interested ...

Rocky Athas: solos with John Mayall Band

ROCKY ATHAS, GUITAR SOLO, JOHN MAYALL & BAND, MEZZ BREDA, DEC. 12TH, 2012

by Vincent Lyons
Super cool blues guitar solo by Rocky Athas, when British blues legend John Mayall and band performed a spectacular set at the MEZZ venue, in Breda, the Netherlands, on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012. It was a real 'blast' to see John Mayall 'knod the head' to Rocky, to go for a solo, as he has done so many times before with other great guitarists in the past, including Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya, and Buddy Whittington. Extract from John Mayall's website: ROCKY ATHAS -- Guitar. Texan Rocky Athas started playing guitar at school and performing at neighborhood gigs with good friend Stevie Ray Vaughan. They were schoolmates and friends growing up in the Dallas suburb of Oak Cliff, Texas. By age 23, Rocky was honored as one of the ten best guitarists in Texas, as an inductee to Buddy Magazine's Texas Tornadoes. Stevie Ray Vaughan would receive his induction two years later. Rocky holds this honor with such noted guitarists as Eric Johnson, Bugs Henderson, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Vaughan and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons who is also a long-time admirer of Rocky's playing. Rocky wasn't only recognized by Texas musicians, the Irish rock band 'Thin Lizzy' wrote the song 'Cocky Rocky' after hearing Rocky play one night at 'Mother Blues', a local Dallas club. 'Queen' guitarist Brian May was also on hand for those performances and was so floored by Rocky's finger tapping style that he incorporated it on the next Queen album. May later revealed that it was the guitarist from Mother Blues who first introduced him to the style, well before Eddie Van Halen became known for this. From Wikipedia:In November 2008, Mayall announced on his website he was disbanding the Bluesbreakers, to cut back on his heavy workload and give himself freedom to work with other musicians. Three months later a solo world tour was announced, with: Rocky Athas on guitar, Greg Rzab on bass, and Jay Davenport on drums. Tom Canning, on organ, joined the band for the tour which started in March 2009. An album was released in September 2009. Since then, Mayall has continued to tour with the same backing band, minus Canning, who left due to other priorities.Featuring:Rocky Athas- guitar John Mayall -vocals, keyboards, guitar, harmonicaGreg Rzab - bassJay Davenport -- drumsLinks:http://www.johnmayall.com/http://www.rockyathas.com/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mayallhttp://www.mezz.nl/

Dave's Gibson 1959 reissue Ballad to a Backing track-Song for Nia

Dave here with another original piece to a backing track...Song for Nia. This backing track gave me a lot of problems early on and I had no idea what to do with it until one night in mid January when it came to me.
